Keko Hainswheeler Bio:
Keko Hainswheeler is a wardrobe director, and a fashion and costume designer based between. Los Angeles, London and New York. With decades worth of industry experience and knowledge, Keko is aware of the importance of creating a wardrobe that is wearable, durable and movement orientated, while seamlessly intergrading high fashion into his designs that are fresh and unique. Keko offers wardrobe direction and costume design that is specifically created to each clients aesthetic and brand identity to reinforce their stage presence, performance and creative direction.
Keko has worked with some of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industries on arena tours, music videos and promotional projects including Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Melanie Martinez, Nicki Minaj, Skunk Anansie, Dizzee Rascal, Naomi Campbell, Natalie Portman and Grimes to name a few.
Keko has also worked with some of the worlds most renowned fashion directors Patti Wilson, Nicola Formichetti, and Jay Massacret, photographers Rankin, Nick Knight , Steven klien, and Solve Sundsbo as well as fashion publications including Italian Vogue, V magazine, Dazed and Confused, Vanity Fair.
Keko’s work has also been featured at the Grammy museum L.A for Katy Perry Frock and Roll exhibition, Design Museum London for the Women Fashion and Power exhibition. Keko has also been invited to present and discuss his achievements as a specialist in his field at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Working within the fashion industry, Keko has globally designed and consulted for denim brand Diesel, creating 3 special sellable global collections to celebrate the company’s heritage and unique Diesel DNA.These transferable skills and knowledge allow Keko to offer commercial merchandising and fashion lines for recording where desired.
CREATIVE COLLABORATION
Inspired and vivified by the collaborative process, Keko has joined forces with the industry’s most prominent stylists, photographers, recording artists and global fashion publications. His impressive listing of global clients includes, among others, the Publications of V Magazine, Dazed and Confused, Hunger, Vogue Homme Japan, the Stylist's Nicola Formichetti, Johnny Wujek, Jay Massacret, Kim Howells, Anna Trevelyan, and Photographers Mario Testino, Heidi Slimane, Tim Walker, Ellen Von Unwerth, Rankin, Sølve Sundsbø, and Terry Tsiolis.
CREATIVE DESIGN: RECORDING ARTISTS, CELEBRITIES, PERFORMANCES AND ARENA TOURS
Keko's items adorned A List celebrities and influential recording artists Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jessie J, Dizze Rascal, Take That, Skunk Anansie, Bat for Lashes, Natalie Portman, and Naomi Campbell.
Keko worked with Lady Gaga, conceptualizing and fabricating whole sections for 'The Fame Ball Tour' and record breaking 'The Monster Ball Tour' (the highest grossing tour in history by a debut recording artist) creating looks for Gaga and her dancers. Lady Gaga’s numerous performances and music videos feature a myriad of Keko’s custom designed pieces.
Keko's Iconic pieces include the feathered neck brace, that received global press/media acclaim, worn by Gaga for the MTV Music Awards red carpet; the pieces created for Katy Perry's 'Prismatic World Tour' that featured an animatronic Swarovski encrusted headpiece; and for Skunk Anansie, the creation of custom works for numerous sellout European tours and music videos.
CONSULTANCY As a creative consultant /designer, Keko worked closely with long time collaborator, Nicola Fomichetti. In 2014, Fomichetti went to Diesel as Artistic Director. He commissioned Keko to design and consult on a number of projects, including the 35th anniversary The Diesel Tribute Collection and The Diesel Leather Tribute Collection. Working across the whole fashion line, Keko created products including the denim collection, accessories, footwear, intimates, print, embellishments, and kids wear for both Tribute Collections. These Collections have been launched globally in stores and online. Diesel’s Spring/Summer ’15 runaway collection took Keko to Shanghai where he creatively consulted and designed embellishments for the brand’s catwalk collection. This Collection opened Shanghai Fashion Week.
MUSEUMS
Victoria and Albert Museum - As a result of his recognized achievements, Keko was invited by the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum London to present a talk discussing “his unconventional approach and variety of influences that have made him one of the most sought after collaborators/designers working in the fashion and music industry.”
The Women Fashion Power Global Exhibit – This Design Museum London exhibit, created by Zaha Hadid, brought together 25 globally recognized women to explore fashion as the visual language defining the positions they hold. Two of Keko’s pieces, created for recording artist Skin (Skunk Anansie), were chosen for their striking visual effect and strong expression of female empowerment. Woman Fashion Power exhibited worldwide for over two years.
